• Eliminated the need for surfactants and urea to produce flexible silica foams. Systematic exploration of solvent effects on structure formation. Correlate microstructure macroscopic properties. Elastic, hydrophobic polymethylsilsesquioxane foams were prepared through a surfactant-free route.
